Carnivores, a Sperm Whale in Kaikoura Bay

Carnivores - Sperm Whale - Physeter Macrocephalus, Kaikoura, New Zealand.

Although the fictional tale of Moby Dick is based on a sperm whale, portrayed as a monster who sinks ships and kills the sailors on board, it is now known that sperm whales do not prey on humans. Sperm Whales are indeed carnivores however, their diet consists of giant squid, fish, octopus and skate.

Most carnivores have a preferred food type and this gentle giant of the deep is content on the abundance of food the sea offers.
